Not too long ago, my idea of a relationship with God was probably very ordinary. It consisted of little snippets of God here and there. I did what most “active” Christians do: I went to church on Sundays; had Bible Study on Thursday night; read devotions that were delivered to my inbox; I prayed usually when I needed some help or something was really bothering me. To be completely honest, my Christian walk was flat out boring, unsatisfying and at best disappointing. Can anyone relate?
I knew what it meant to be a Christian. People told me that as a Christian we are supposed to have a quiet time, and we are supposed to pray and go to church and read the Bible. I’ve done all those things throughout my life, but doing them didn’t really have any meaning to it. Instead, they were just things to check off of my to-do list.
Then, one day, I tried something different. And it was life changing. I asked a simple question: what does a relationship with Christ really look like? Quite frankly, it looks very much like….a relationship. I started using the same approaches to my relationship with Christ as I do with people I can see and touch, and my first step was sitting down with Him and having a cup of coffee.
And so Coffee with Christ was born. We meet most mornings in my den, and it is the sweetest part of my day. I listen to Him and He listens to me. He tells me His secrets and I tell Him mine.
He’s that real, you know? Invite Him over for coffee and see for yourself.
